For Java versions 6 and below, Apple supplies their own version of Java. For Mac OS X 10.6 and below, use the Software Update feature (available on the Apple menu) to check that you have the most up-to-date version of Java 6 for your Mac. For issues related to Apple Java 6 on Mac, contact Apple Support. When I upgrade to Mavericks, it uninstalls Java 1.6. I can install Java 7, but for some applications and development work, I still need access to Java 6. How can I reinstall Java 6 in Mavericks? Apple docs generally recommend downloading Java directly from Oracle, but I don't see a Mac version listed on the Oracle download page for Java SE 6.
Hello,
I am new to mac and recently received a MBP as a gift. My operating system is OS X 10.9.5 (Mavericks). I apologize if this has been answered numerous times in the forum but I have not been able to find a solution to my problem.
I am trying to install Java for one website that my firm uses for VPN Remote Desktop connections. My colleagues use both Mac's and PC's to connect without a problem through this website. Java is required to run the scripts for our RSA token keys, the script is Array Solutions.
I recently tried to connect and was prompted to download the latest version of Java. I believe is was version 8. I downloaded the file and installed without a hitch. I checked my security settings etc. to make sure all was in order.
When I visited the site, I was prompted to accept the user certificate and allowed the site access to Java. It started to work and then I received a pop up window indicating that I need to install the most current version of Java. The strange part is that I have it. Needless to say, I was not able to gain access because my Java isn't working.
Is there a solution to this? Will I need to bring my Mac to my neighborhood store and have one the Geniuses configure my system?
Cheers,
W.

If, after installing Java for OS X 2014-001 and the latest version of Java 7 from Oracle, you want to disable Java 7 and re-enable the Apple-provided Java SE 6 web plug-in and Web Start functionality, follow these steps.
Note: You must be logged in as an administrator. If prompted for your administrator password after a command, enter it and then press the Return or Enter key.
The following steps will undo the above commands and restore Java 7 in OS X Lion and later.
